JumpYard welcomes SVT’s review of safety in trampoline parks
Questions & answers about our safety work
On 5 December, a report was broadcast on SVT about safety in Swedish trampoline parks.
The report highlighted that the Swedish Consumer Agency has criticised our safety work regarding a specific climbing attraction in 2021 and that they have applied for JumpYard to pay a penalty fee.
JumpYard does not agree with the assessment and will respond to the Administrative Court, which will decide the matter.
The safety of our visitors is of paramount importance to us and we are constantly working on safety in all areas of our parks. We welcome the review of trampoline parks as it helps us to become even better.
Basically, all the Consumer Agency’s reviews of us are about ensuring that our trampoline parks are safe for our visitors. In this respect, we and the Consumer Agency have the same goal. But we do not share the Consumer Agency’s assessment that we have been negligent in our work on the climbing attraction. We will also respond to the Administrative Court and we look forward to their decision on the matter
Safety is the most important thing for us. Everyone working in the parks has been trained in safety and we have a systematic safety programme. The most important thing is that all visitors follow our safety rules, then we can prevent almost all injuries.
Our safety rules are in short:
- Only one person per trampoline.
- Avoid the edge protectors.
- Always land on your back or bum in the foam pit and air bag.
- Only do tricks and flips that you can handle.
- Do not run in the park.
In any place where children and young people play and practise sport, there will be a risk of injury. We therefore have clear safety rules that we inform all visitors about. The rules are posted at all the different attractions in the park. Unfortunately, it happens that visitors do not follow the rules, which increases the risk of an accident.
In general, the younger the visitor, the fewer and less serious the injuries. In terms of serious injuries, adult men are over-represented.
The most common injury is guests spraining their foot when stepping or landing on the edge protection. Up to September this year, there have been 92 injuries in the company’s Swedish parks, 73 of which occurred in the trampolines, where guests needed to seek medical attention. During the same period, guests have jumped a total of 1 200 000 hours.
“After someone has suffered an injury, we record and analyse where it happened, how it happened and what the consequences were. We do this because we want to learn how to avoid something similar happening again. We are constantly changing and improving our parks to make them even safer.
JumpYard works with safety in several different ways:
We follow standards, conduct audits, have safety-focused employees, and communicate safety rules.
Here’s how we work with this:
We follow standards
We follow an international ISO standard for how trampoline parks should be designed, operated and maintained. This is a standard we helped develop, together with the Swedish Consumer Agency, global suppliers and trampoline park chains. When an activity does not meet our safety expectations, we replace it, even if it meets the standard.
We carry out checks
In addition to daily, weekly and monthly maintenance, we have our equipment inspected annually by an external inspection company to ensure it meets the global ISO standard.
Our employees focus on safety
All our employees are trained in safety issues. Half of our approximately 450 employees in Sweden are directly involved in safety and monitoring the activity area and guests. They inform guests about safety rules and identify risks.
Most of the others work indirectly with safety by informing guests about safety rules when they come to the park. In addition, we have five full-time employees who work on systematically identifying safety improvement measures and training.
We inform about safety rules
Our park rules are one of our main safety tools. They are posted in our parks and every visitor is presented with them before their visit. An important, but not always easy, part of our staff’s job is to ensure that the rules are respected in practice.
Injuries are rare, especially in the airbag attraction and our climbing attractions. In the year to September, we had three injuries where guests needed to seek medical attention in the airbag attraction and one in the climbing attraction at all parks in the country.
It’s always sad when someone gets hurt. We try to encourage everyone to follow the safety rules as we know this is the best way to reduce the risk of injury.
We got your back
